Latest Trends: Men’s Fashion Week

This time of the year is one of the biggest weeks in fashion. In just a few weeks New York Fashion Week will be showing, followed by Paris and other major cities. Currently designers are showing their fall 2015 menswear lines.
Although many think fashion revolves around women clothing, designers, models, etc., this is a lie! Some of the major fashion executives and designers are in fact men. Men’s and womenswear inspire each other and play off each other’s trends. Menswear is a huge part of the industry and styles are constantly evolving.
A trend shown in the fall collections are oversized long coats with draped lapels and large buttons. This trend is dominant in Marc Jacobs’ line. His line seemed to be inspired by the 1970s male and young urban trends. He depicts the Marc Jacobs man, an edgy young man with long hair, in large coats made of suiting plaid and dress pants. The colors that will be popular in fall 2015 are dark gray, navy, brown, black, maroon and cream. Marc Jacobs also mixed plaids with other small detailed prints. One way Marc Jacobs used brown in a print is with leopard. Beanies and lots of layering will continue to be trends for the fall. Wrap coats are also an emerging trend in menswear.

Sweaters are also a trend for fall. Bottega Veneta’s line is inspired by the 1960s styles worn by the trend setting male. The colors they chose were very risky for the mass market man: black, gray, purple, orange, pink and red. Knitted sweaters were shown in vibrant geometric prints. Layering of sweaters and jackets paired with baggy knit pants in solids colors were shown in this collection. Suits were also shown in this collection as well mostly in shades of gray.
Gray, grey, any way you spell it, it’s the color of fall 2015. That was the only color Calvin Klein used for their collection. Calvin Klein’s line was inspired by vintage clothing, just like the other designers, from the 1940s. The designs feature pieces created from fabrics with shiny textures and prints to show different shades of grey within each piece. At times the prints look very similar to leopard print. The garments were very similar to the other collections except for the fabric and styling.
Some trends to try in menswear for fall 2015 are large oversized coats, printed sweaters, layering, combat style boots, beanies, plaid suits and gray. You could get even more trendy and try leopard or bright shades such as pink! I hope you are looking forward to seeing more of what the fall collections have to offer in just a few weeks when womenswear collections are show.
